Reutlingen/Munich, September 2010. For already the eleventh time,
Huyck.Wangner, the leading supplier of paper machine clothing,
together with the Munich University of Applied Sciences' faculty of
Process Engineering - Paper and Packaging/Master of Engineering
in Paper Technology, has awarded the prize for best student
enrolled in the basic course. This year, Christoph Herz won the
EUR 1,500 prize.
The head of the Faculty of Process Engineering - Paper and Packaging -
only determines the name of the best student in the basic course one
day prior to the summer term's closing ceremony. As a result, this time
the event was marked by something unique in the eleven-year history of
the Huyck.Wangner talent award. This year's winner Christoph Herz, still
unaware of his outstanding performance in the first phase of his studies,
was already in Norway enjoying a well deserved semester break.
Imagine his elation when he took the call from Professor Stephan
Kleemann, who relayed the good news and next day, accepted the prize
on his behalf from Ernst Kerschhofer, Director Sales & Marketing
Huyck.Wangner Europe.
The curriculum's content was nothing new to the twenty-three-year-old
winner, who had previously completed his apprenticeship as a paper
technologist at Technocell Dekor in Günzach, including a three-month
work term right at a paper machine. Christoph Herz became very
interested in the extreme diversity of the field of paper technology during
his apprenticeship and subsequently decided to further his education,
not least because he was supported by Technocell. He could have
studied either in Darmstadt or Munich, but since the courses offered in
Darmstadt tend to be geared more toward mechanical engineering,
Christoph Herz elected to go to Munich. The curriculum enjoys a very
good reputation in the paper industry and furthermore, the University
offers a pleasant study environment.
The winner of the talent award completed his third semester internship
at Sappi Schweiz AG in Biberist, where he was chiefly responsible for
addressing complaints regarding overstretching and wrinkles. When
asked about his career goals, Christoph Herz answered: "After finishing
my studies, I would like to work in development and optimization." His
favorite ways to relax when he finds time to take a break from his
intricate study schedule are to play soccer at the club, snowboard or
read.
